Why is sugar used in some of the meals?Updated 2 days ago

In general, we avoid using refined or cane sugar, as well as ingredients with added sugar.

That said, we make a few small exceptions for certain traditional ingredients, such as candied ginger, Worcestersauce (vegan) or mustard, where the characteristic flavor comes from the way the ingredient is traditionally made and cannot be achieved by simply mixing the individual ingredients at home.

These ingredients are used in very small, carefully controlled amounts. As a result, the overall sugar content of our meals is strictly monitored and averages below 12 g of sugar per meal.

For context, the DGE recommends limiting free sugar intake to less than 10% of daily energy intake, which corresponds to around 50 g per day for an average adult.

Our meals are designed to be enjoyed in rotation, supporting a colourful, balanced, and nutrient-rich diet based on a wide variety of vegetables and legumes.

Using our filter function, you can easily exclude dishes whose recipes include ingredients such as candied ginger, Worcestersauce (vegan) or mustard.
